Toy Theatre: PART ONE
Theatre in Miniature

Participants will create unique miniature stages inspired by traditional 19th-century toy theatres, using cardboard boxes as the foundation. While staying true to the classic techniques—such as rolling backdrops, shadow images, and transforming scenery—this workshop will invite participants to weave in their own personal stories. Whether it's a life-changing event, a haunting dream, or a cherished memory of someone who has passed, participants will explore these themes to bring their narratives to life on their mini stages.

Toy Theatre: PART TWO
Theatre in Miniature

We will build upon our structures from PART ONE and add backdrops, jointed figures, and scenic elements.
This workshop is suitable for adults with some crafting experience, but all levels are welcome!
Lisa Aimee Sturz, renowned puppeteer and Artistic Director of Red Herring Puppets, boasts an illustrious career marked by collaborations with industry giants such as Lucasfilm, Disney Imagineering, and Henson Productions. With a diverse repertoire spanning from television classics like "Murphy Brown" to blockbuster films like "Batman Returns," Lisa has left an indelible mark on the entertainment landscape. Her artistic prowess extends to live performances, with Red Herring Puppets captivating audiences at prestigious venues including the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta and the International Puppet Fringe Festival in NYC. Lisa's dedication to her craft has garnered accolades including a California Emmy and an UNIMA Citation of Excellence, affirming her status as a pioneer in American puppetry. Holding degrees from Grinnell College, UConn, and UCLA, Lisa also shares her expertise as a teacher, shaping the next generation of puppetry talent at institutions such as CalPoly and Warren Wilson College.
