On the Road Again: Americana in Miniature by Connie Sauve
January 30, 2024 through April 28, 2024
The dream of travel is one we can all relate to, especially with the start of a new year. In her latest solo exhibition, IGMA* Fellow Connie Sauve captures the nostalgia and yearning of that quintessential American desire to hit the road, with pieces reflecting voyages of all kinds, whether by horseback, taxi, or soapbox derby racer. Sauve masterfully tells the story of each traveler through delicate details, revealing the places they may be headed, places they’ve been, and the many undefined destinations where the journey itself is the goal. Each finished piece is a personal journey of its own, for Sauve herself – overcoming creative roadblocks along the way. On the Road Again: Americana in Miniature features 9 works by Connie Sauve, in both 1" scale and 1/4" scale. *International Guild of Miniature Artisans
Bringing scenes from the past to life in miniature is my passion. I call these frozen moments in time “Americana in Miniature.” My projects span eras and locales - from rural homesteads to bustling city streets, grand estates to humble cottages. I especially enjoy recreating aged, weathered pieces that evoke the passage of time. Each miniature world I craft tells a story; some ideas strike in a flash, while others slowly take shape as I work. The tiny details draw you in, each one whispering its own tale. The figures are integral players that animate each vignette. I costume them to be as realistic as possible, infusing every one with unique personality. Inspiration springs from everywhere - a piece of furniture, an evocative figure, a telling accessory. Together, they weave a rich tapestry of American life through the ages in miniature. - Connie Sauve
