Stay Gold is a 10-week, intergenerational LGBTQIA+ arts program held twice a year at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) Tucson. Students from varying generations and backgrounds learn together in a safe, collaborative environment. In the spring of 2022, teaching artist Lex Gjurasic designed a visual art workshop for MOCA in which Stay Gold participants would learn about the art of miniatures and create a diorama. The subject matter of the project was centered on exploring deeply person emotions surrounding their experience of queerness. Lectures, drawing exercises, and a tour of The Mini Time Machine Museum provided a foundation for designing and creating their miniature works of art.
