Stages of Imagination: The Iconic Broadway Designs of David Korins

September 20, 2024 through May 31, 2025

The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures, in collaboration with Korins Studio, proudly announces the debut of an unparalleled exhibition, Stages of Imagination: The Iconic Broadway Designs of David Korins. This groundbreaking showcase invites visitors on an immersive journey into the visionary world of Emmy award-winning, three-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway designer David Korins. Featuring the original Broadway set models of Hamilton, Beetlejuice, Dear Evan Hansen, Here Lies Love, and The Who's Tommy, visitors will get to peek behind the curtain at how these iconic sets are created from page-to-stage. The exhibition includes highlights from interviews from David's many artistic collaborators such as Lin Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, Lea Salonga, Ben Platt, and more.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to take a picture on a full-size replica of the Beetlejuice couch, designed by David Korins!

"I'd spent six years writing Hamilton, but David Korins' set created an unforgettable landscape for the story to unfold in the imaginations of the audience and us performers on the stage…David created the runway for us to fly.”

- Lin-Manuel Miranda, Book, Music and Lyrics, Hamilton

“The key to world building with David is that he has a keen understanding of the role that the moving image can play in the theatre.  He understands how to create a space, an environment, that serves the mechanical needs of the play and still leaves room for the thrust of the design to be driven by the images.”

"There is no such thing as a set design by David Korins.

The design you see from the audience is the collaborative contribution of many artists. Some work within the scenic department, from model makers to illustrators, while the rest are part of other creative disciplines, like lighting, costume, choreography and acting. The final set you see onstage is the result of an orchestra of gifted individuals, coming together in the singularly magical, interdisciplinary concert that is making theater.

Welcome to our celebration of creation, collaboration and community."
