Los Angeles dance company Benita Bike’s DanceArt will be bringing their interactive dance program to the museum for a performance on Sunday, May 21, 2017. June 5–9, 2017 from 9am-12pm. Become a paleontologist excavating a dinosaur graveyard. Build a miniature excavation site with dinosaur bones, waterfall, greenery and an explosive volcano. Discuss fossils and paleontology. Additional activities include creating miniature clay fossils, paleontologist tools, and dinosaur eggs. $125 per child/session. Pre-registration required. June 5–9, 2017 from 1pm–4pm.Discover the ancient Roman town of Pompeii, frozen in time since the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 70. Build a diorama that explores Pompeii as an archeological site. Learning about volcanic activity and archeology, students build a miniature version of the once “sleeping giant” volcano and the city ruins beneath it. Kids Create Family Fun Program is designed to expose school-aged children to the art of making miniatures. This program takes place from 1pm–4pm the second Saturday of every month. June 12–16, 2017 from 9am–12pm.Become an astronaut traveling through the Milky Way Galaxy for the very first time. Design and build a miniature rocket ship and create an alien landscape with valleys, craters, and rock formations. Additional activities include launching a model rocket and creating a nebula galaxy jar. $125 per child/ per session. Pre-registration is required. June 12–16, 2017 from 1pm-4pm.Discover small creatures in a big way! Exploring size and scale, students study the tiniest details of insects and sculpt a larger-than-life insect in a display case. Create displays that contain faux plants and insects in their natural environments made from a variety of sculpture processes. $125 per child/per session. Pre-registration required. June 19–23, 2017 from 9am–12pm.Create a whimsical fairy garden in a planter tray. Build a fairy cottage with a patio roof surrounded by real plants. Make miniature garden accessories including a bird house, walking path, mushrooms and a resident fairy or gnome. June 19–23, 2017 from 1pm–4pm.Even fairies like to camp! Create and build your fairy camp in a lush meadow. Students create a stunning backdrop, lush green meadow and stream. Build a tent, campfire, picnic area, boat and other camp accessories designed for small fairies, sprites and gnomes. June 26–30, 2017 from 9am–12pm.Build a unique fairy landscape nestled among magical crystal geodes. Students grow their own crystals and create a magical crystal landscape – the perfect home for fairies, sprites and gnomes! Other activities include creating a fairy light jar, breaking their own geode, and making miniature fairies and gnomes. $125 per child/per person.
