Title: Fairy Fantasy– Fairy Habitat Workshop
Class Description: Capture the magic of summer through the creation of a mixed-media fairy habitat. This two-day weekend workshop (9am -noon each day) provides students with the skills, materials and techniques to create a unique, finely-crafted fairy habitat. On Day 1 of the workshop, students will construct the habitat by cutting and shaping their papier-mâché box and sculpting the tree stump walls and roots. Students will learn to use, manipulate and sculpt with paper clay. On Day 2, students will finish their fairy habitat by painting, adding fine details and decorating with rocks, moss, twigs, flowers and more.
Skills: This class is designed for all levels. Students will become familiar with paper clay and gain experience with various sculpting techniques such as shaping, carving and smoothing.
Instructor Biography: Over the last three years, Lani has given her time to The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures as a volunteer, docent and part-time Museum Services Assistant. Lani started making and collecting miniatures 30 years ago when she was shopping for a Christmas present for her mother at a miniature store and signed up for the local club. She has been an active member of the Southern Arizona Miniature Enthusiasts (formerly the Tucson Miniature Society) ever since. Her own collection of houses and roomboxes (some created in workshops by renowned miniature artists and ranging from a sea captain’s saltbox house to a modern, contemporary home) are each furnished with furniture made by Lani, predominately from kits. She’ll share many of the tips and techniques from her thirty years experience during the class.
